For the next few weeks our citizenship theme is to "CHOOSE KIND". The Choose Kind concept came from a wonderful book called Wonder by R.J. Palacio. The book is a selection for older readers (students read it in 5th grade) but it's about a boy with a facial deformity and the difficulties he faces because of his looks. The book has touched so many readers, a national Choose Kind movement was started in 2013. The message is simple, just one act of kindness can make a difference. I will be talking with the students about kindness and how they can help make someone's day brighter by simple acts of kindness. At this time of love, take the time to smile and CHOOSE KIND.
We won the Alien!! Yep, 3-BA read the most minutes in 3rd grade for the month of January. This month, the students will win a free Kane County Cougar ticket. There will be a date in May when May Watts students come and enjoy a fun-filled baseball game with their classmates. The chorus will sing the national anthem and there will be students from all grade levels. I really encourage the students to read, read, read, this month so they can join the fun.
ISAT testing is the first week in March. This test is required by the State of Illinois to measure student mastery of grade level skills. The results of this test do not have anything to do with student grades. Third graders are usually nervous about these tests and worry that they will not move on to fourth grade. While we relieve their fears, it's still a big deal. At the top of the blog, there is a tab labeled ISATS. Click on the tab and you will see sample ISAT questions for both reading and math. Your child will practice answering past ISAT questions and get a feel for the type of questions being asked. Please try to have your student at school, get plenty of rest and eat a healthy breakfast. Next year, we will move away from the ISAT test and begin taking the PARCC assessment. These tests will be designed to measure growth and be given multiple times throughout the year.
