Winter Wonderland

As we move into winter and the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, try to remember the simple things in life.  I have been talking to the students about listening to the sounds of silence.  It's amazing the sounds you hear when you are really listening, not to mention the clarity of your thoughts when you are not multi-tasking or rushing off somewhere.  We have been working on manners and courtesy as well as empathy.  What great human qualities to possess.  Whenever we put someone before ourselves, we feel a sense of community and friendship.  When we say "thank you" we are acknowledging  an act of kindness. So reach out to a family in need, send in some canned goods. Smile at a stranger, say hello and give the gift of giving.  Winston Churchill said  "We make a living by what we get and we make a life by what why we give." The students will be learning about personal narratives and writing about a memory they have of a celebration.  Can you visualize a memory?  Sometimes memories are the best gift of all.  Make some new memories this holiday season and give the gift of giving.  I am blessed to teach your students and my goal is they receive the gift of discovery and wonder in a respectful and caring environment.  My hope is they continue to build their brains and grow as caring individuals.  As we move into the new year, peace, love and happiness.
