President's Day is the day chosen to celebrate all of the U.S. presidents. We think of two great presidents, George Washington and Abraham Lincoln because they were both born in the month of February. Since 1968, President's Day has been a national holiday that is celebrated the 3rd Monday in February. Here is a link to some fun President's Day activities...

Invention Convention - Students are using their creative juices to create a new invention! As part of our Social Studies unit on the People that Shape our LIves, the students have learned about Benjamin Franklin and how his inventions are still part of American culture. this led into a great discussion about how everything is an invention - shoes and socks, microwaves, automobiles and buttons. The items are endless!! The important thing to note is each invention was developed because of a problem or need. The students have been challenged to think of their own inventions. What would they create to solve a problem or help make the world a better place? They will be drawing and writing about their inventions in class. I can't wait to see what their creative minds come up with.
Book Report Project- The students of 3Ba are doing fun"Cheeseburger" book reports. In an effort to keep the students reading, I have assigned a book report project. In the tabs at the top of the blog you will find the full details of the assignment, but here is in a nutshell. The students are to read a just right, fictional text of at least 150 pages. Then, they will receive a cheeseburger "draft" once they have fixed all the spelling mistakes and edited their information they will create their cheeseburger. During ISAT week we will relax, have a little fun and learn about new books. The kids will be expected to give a short book talk about their book and give the class their recommendations. This will be much like the book critic portion of Current Events. Now the students have a purpose for reading and logging in those minutes!!!
Danny and Kristina are the best!!! Even grown children can surprise you and surprise me they did. My son Danny and Daughter Kristina surprised Dave and I with a 30th Anniversary party on Saturday. What a lovely heart-felt moment in time. They invited friends and family, planned and paid for the whole event themselves. There were 35 people!!!! Dave and I went to the car show in the morning and walked in to a house full of people yelling surprise! LIfe doesn't get better than that. Everyone came to help Dave and I celebrate a tremendous milestone in our lives. Even little Cooper was there to give some love to his Grammy and Papa. Many of the people there were at our wedding! It was amazing. My wonderful son-in-law made a beautify video of Dave and I through the years and my heart was full of joy. There are no words to express how much a mother loves her children and there are no people in this world more amazing than my children. I am so proud to call them mine :) Money can buy a lot of things, but knowing how much my kids love me --- priceless! I am truly blessed. Needed to share - my heart is singing XOXO.
