Enjoy the Beauty of the Season

December brings cold weather and the anticipation of winter holidays and a long awaited winter break.  The next three weeks will be filled with new units of study, assemblies and another holiday party.

In reading we are starting a shared reading of the Boxcar Children by Gertrude Chandler Warner.  The original story was written in 1942 and has been captivating children ever since.  Below is a site discussing the author which includes a comprehensive list of the other books in the series.  Once the students get a taste of the adventures of the four orphans Henry, Jessie, Violet and Benny they may be compelled to read further adventures of the "Boxcar Children".

In writing, we are beginning our first research project about Sea Creatures.  Located on the right sidebar of the blog are National Geographic sites about the Sea Creatures to be researched as well as safe search engines for kids. 

In Science we are beginning a unit on animals habitats.  Lots of great learning!

Supplies Needed Please!!!

As we get closer to the mid-year break,  our supplies are dwindling.  We are in need of 

Pencils and Dry Erase markers.  If you can make a donation for the class that would be great.

The Winner is ....

We completed our author study on Chris Van Allsburg and the students just loved it!  I don't think there was one story they didn't enjoy.  I asked the students to choose which book they liked the best and 

The Stranger won with the contest with The Sweetest Fig coming in second.
